The Onkraj Gradbišča garden is located in a long-time fenced-off construction pit in the centre of Ljubljana. Founded in 2011, the garden has about hundred members, gardening out of financial, social and health motivations. Exposing gardeners to the mastery of lactic acid fermention and providing the urine fermenting toilet supports the self-sufficiency of these edible gardens. The dry toilet chair is a reinterpretation of Enzo Mari’s 1974 Sedia 1 chair, a DIY project that was meant as a theoretical and practical engagement tool for anyone. The Nimby toilet aims to be an educational exercise, inviting people to think and do. (NIMBY = not in my back yard)
