The exhibition Upcycling displays works made as a part of the project Re-use - R&R design and technological proces. Mentored by Barbara Prinčič and Elena Fajt, students of Industrial Design from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and students of textile and clothing design from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University in Ljubljana, in collaboration with the re-use centre called Center ponovne uporabe revived discarded products and gave them a new function in the context of the open loop, that is, 'upcycling'.

The exhibition Upcycling displays works made as a part of the project Re-use - R&R design and technological proces by students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University in Ljubljana and it focuses on the problem of waste. We produce too much, spend too much and discard too much (and too quickly). The purpose of the project was to acquaint students with the design process and different technological procedures in the case of conversion/processing of products intended for re-use, and the goal was that each student prepares design concept and its technical implementation for at least one discarded product intended for processing (within the re-use centre called Center ponovne uporabe) for re-use.

Six students of industrial design were engaged in the processing of confiscated slot machines which will, processed and transformed, find new functions in various forms. Students of textiles and clothes design were dedicated to processing old clothes and other textile products into contemporary, wearable and design-wise unique clothes.

Organizers are Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial and Unique design, and Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Department of Textile and Fashion Design of University in Ljubljana, in collaboration with the re-use centre Center ponovne uporabe .

Project is partially funded by the European Union through the European Social Fund. The project is taking place under the Operative Program for Human Resources Development for the period 2007-2013, 1st priority axis “Promoting entrepreneurship and adaptability” and preferred orientation 1.3: “Scholarship Scheme” within an approved operation “Following the creative way to practical knowledge”.
